How much do we spend on cars?


A report from Canada's official statisticians shows that consumers spent more on motor vehicles and related parts and services in 1999 than they did on food, non-alcoholic beverages, clothing, and footwear combined.

"Of every $100 of retail spending in 1999, Canadians purchased $35.70 worth of motor vehicles and related parts and services, $19.50 worth of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and $9.70 worth of clothing, accessories and footwear," says a report in the April 5, 2000, issue of The Daily, an official news report from Statistics Canada. Spending on motor vehicles, parts, and services rose 7% from 1998 to 1999.End of Article
