I am an Ontario resident looking to get an International Driving Permit because I will be working in California. CAA is the retailer who offers them here in Canada. But it says right on the CAA website that IDP's issued by CAA are not valid in North America. Other sites say IDP's are valid in any country that has sign into the agreement. So which is it? an IDP can't be converted to any other license, since it is nto really a license at all, just a translation of your license from your home state or country.

I think you have to get a Qatar license.

I would like to inform you all that the State of California in the USA does not accept the IDP,you may get a ticket for no license if the Cop so desires,But most will put it in the system that you were pulled over with one and next time you WILL get a ticket

Trevor, the car accident fault is sorted out according to local laws. If a driver has an IDP this is just proof of having a license from wherever they reside. You'll be asked to produce your actual license.

I want a light vehicle licence in Trinidad (Automative) what is the procedure.

I applied for International driving license in India on 9 Aug 2007 and that time my Temporary work permit visa of Canada was valid till 30 Sep 2007 on this basis Indian IDL issuing authority issued me an IDL of validity up to 30 Sep 2007.



That time I requested Indian IDL issuing authority that I need IDL for 1 year validity because I may extend my Temporary work permit visa in Canada after 30 Sep 2007. They told me that by default IDLs are issued for 1 yr validity but as my current visa is valid till 30 Sep 2007 they are putting the validity date of 30 Sep 2007 on IDL. If I extend my stay in Canada after 30 Sep 2007 then this validity of IDL will automatically extend up to 1 year that is up to 9 Aug 2008 and I will be eligible to drive in Canada till 9 Aug 2008.

let me know whether I am eligible to drive in Ontario Canada or not.

Nigeria is NOT listed among the countries accepting the U.N. International Driving Permit. However, as a visitor to the UK you should be able to drive there for a while on your Nigerian license.

To Pink: UK Highway Code specifed that an IDP is valid only within the first year after you have obtained your UK residency. I doubt that you have to apply now for UK driving license.

I am currently living in Germany with my finace who is a German citizen. I've been told on several occasions that I need to obtain a German driver's license after 6 months of living here. I have a California's license but it is not recognized in this country (some states like Pennsylvania is recognized). Will getting an IDP be a solution for me if I plan on living here for another 2 years with a Visa?

The IDP is only good for 12 months, and that's from the time you take up residence in Germany. You're going to need a German License, which, I believe, requires lots of training, but you wind up being a good driver.
