Over the Christmas period, more than 1,700 people responded to the UK's Crimestoppers reward program for informing on drinking drivers. The informants included husbands, wives, friends, relatives, neighbours and workmates, according to the London Times,
It's the first time that cash has been offered for reporting drunk motorists,
according to Roy Clark, director of Crimestoppers, which is registred as a national
charity. “Every one of them was a potential killer and I have no doubt
lives were saved,” Clark said. The initiative has been criticized because
of fears it might create “pub bounty hunters.” Read
