Novice Driver Education Symposium:
This conference preceded, and probably was the precurser of, the AAA Foundation's Novice Driver Education Model Curriculum Outline. What made it unique was the broadness of its scope and the quality of presentations from the internationally renowned panel. Presentations included: research implications, risk perception and acceptance, moral responsibility in young drivers, young driver perception, social psychological perspective, lifelong learning, theoretical perspectives on risk behavior, features of novice driver learning, socialization and driver ed., what's learned in training and how to improve it, parental involvement, learning styles and value systems, affective and informal learning, role of social drama, vaccinating children for safe driving, New Zealand's DrivePlan, the role of simulation, media ecology, creating structures to allow young people to contribute to their driver education, and summaries. |
